The woman in her 40s visited Baby April’s resting place in Ashford, Kent, in June this year, police said.
An e-fit of a woman who visited the grave of a baby who has remained unidentified for more than 30 years has been released by detectives still trying to trace the child’s parents.
The mystery visitor was seen at Bybrook Cemetery in Ashford, Kent, in June, and appeared to be distressed during her time at the graveside, Kent Police said.
Baby April, thought to have been up to a week old, was found dead wrapped in plastic bags at Singleton Lake on April 3 1995, having died from asphyxiation.
Detectives could not trace her parents or any relatives, even after temporarily exhuming her body to get a full DNA profile in 2011.
The woman who visited her grave is aged in her 40s, white, no taller than 5ft 7in, medium to slim build and with a pale complexion. She had grey shoulder-length hair and was wearing a grey short cardigan, trainers, and black leggings.
She was carrying a small shoulder bag and had a fabric holdall with a floral pattern, carried across her body and that appeared to be quite full.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil Kimber said: “Baby April was named after the month she was born. Despite ongoing inquiries since that time, her parents and true identity to this date have never been found.
“We believe it is important to find the truth behind this tragic story and this woman might have information which could assist us in finding that.”
