The first celebrity spin-off of the BBC smash hit was named best reality competition.
The Celebrity Traitors and Clarkson’s Farm won top prizes at the National Television Awards.
The first celebrity spin-off of the BBC smash hit was named best reality competition, after comedian Alan Carr was revealed to be a traitor in a nail-biting finale.
Collecting the gong, his co-star, Charlotte Church, said: “I just want to say – that final, what a beautiful vignette of male tenderness and emotional expression.
“Alan, Nick (Mohammed) and David (Olusoga), you were just absolutely sublime, so kudos, brother.”
Carr was also surprised with the special recognition award after he was serenaded by Amanda Holden, Paloma Faith, Kate Garraway, Church and Olusoga.
Faith was carried onto the stage in a black coffin, in a reference to her dramatic murder by Carr on Celebrity Traitors.
In a video tribute, his Traitors co-star, Sir Stephen Fry, said: “Despite the wickedness, despite the cruelty of the man, it’s very hard not to love him.”
Host Claudia Winkleman said: “He’s delicious, isn’t he? I’d like him on a cracker.”
Collecting the gong, Carr said: “This is how thick I am, it was only when Paloma came out that I realised it’s me.
“I should have realised when they put me in the front row, I’m usually in the back with the people from Naked Attraction.”
Clarkson’s Farm won the reality docuseries prize, defeating hits including At Home With The Furys, Stacey & Joe and Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing.
Speaking backstage after his win, Clarkson added it was a “thrill” to scoop the gong.
“The people who voted for us … I also think they kind of voted for farmers. I think they are going, ‘oh, that is a difficult job’.”
The Prime Video series won the factual entertainment series at last year’s award.
Earlier this year, Clarkson revealed he had been diagnosed with “aggressive” prostate cancer, which had been discovered early, during an episode of Clarkson’s Farm.
He later said that a PSA test in April showed no indication of cancer and he is in remission.
“I had a heart thing and then a bit of cancer, but we are very lucky to live in a time when doctors can mend you very quickly and easily,” he said backstage at the NTAs.
“I was only also away two weeks, too (for treatment).
“It was just annoying as I missed a lot of the harvest.”
Clarkson also gave an update on the 11 sheep that were recently stolen from his farm.
He said: “I think it’s a foregone conclusion that you probably ate one of them last night. There’s none on the farm and there’s no blood and guts, so somebody has stolen them and butchered them.
“They were the breeding ewes, which is genuinely annoying. They are £205 each, so over £2,000 worth of sheep were stolen. It’s annoying and it’s happening a lot.
“Farmers are armed … I don’t know why people don’t realise that.”
The NTAs started with a performance from The Hawkstone Farmers Choir – who won the latest season of Britain’s Got Talent earlier this year after being put together by Clarkson.
The first award handed out was The Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award – which was won by Michael McIntyre’s Big Show.
New drama was awarded to I Fought The Law – which starred Sheridan Smith as Ann Ming – a British mother who campaigned to overturn the 800-year-old British double jeopardy law following the murder of her daughter.
Gogglebox won the factual entertainment prize, defeating Secret Garden, Sort Your Life Out, 24 Hours In Police Custody and The Martin Lewis Money Show Live.
Emmerdale’s Jeff Hordley won the serial drama performance prize for his portrayal of Cain Dingle, while the soap was named best serial drama.
The daytime category was won by This Morning, defeating Good Morning Britain, James Martin’s Saturday Morning, Loose Women and Scam Interceptors.
Speaking backstage, co-host Cat Deeley said: “I think more than anything … we love going into work. It is a pleasure to go in and it is a real privilege to go into people’s living rooms.”
This Morning previously won the award for 12 years running, from 2011 to 2022.
The show lost in the nominations in 2023 to The Repair Shop and The Chase the following year, before taking back the award in 2025.
Returning drama was won by Call The Midwife, which previously won the award in 2025.
Sir David Attenborough won the TV presenter prize but was not at the ceremony to collect the gong.
In a speech that was read out on his behalf, he called on viewers to take action in the fight against climate change.
He said: “I hope this award is a response to the part television has played in growing recognition, not only for the terrible plight our wonderful planet is in as a result of human activity but also of the fact we now have a pressing responsibility to do what we can to protect and conserve it.
He added: “Humanity has always needed the natural world for all the practicalities of life and for our mental wellbeing. Now the natural world needs us too. Surely we must not ignore that simple fact.”
Mrs Brown’s Boys was named best comedy while Our Girls: The Southport Families was named best authored documentary.
Strictly Come Dancing was named best talent show.
Vicky McClure won the best drama performance prize for ITV thriller Trigger Point and paid tribute to other working class actors saying: “It’s so hard, we’ve got to make it easier.”
