Dolly Parton has secured her highest-charting single and made Official Charts history with three hits in the top 10, amid a resurgence for her music following her death.
The country music star died aged 80 on August 25 following “a brief battle with cancer”, and in the wake of her passing some of her biggest hits have jumped up the charts.
Parton has placed fifth on the official singles chart with one of her best known songs, 9 To 5 – securing the star her highest-charting UK track as fans honour her legacy.
Another of her genre-defining hits, Jolene, has reached an all-time high as it rises one place to number six, and close behind is Parton’s 1983 duet with Kenny Rogers – Islands In The Stream – which sits at number nine.
Parton has made history with three of her songs simultaneously sitting in the top 10, according to the Official Charts Company.
The singer is also experiencing a resurgence on the official albums chart as Diamonds & Rhinestones: The Greatest Hits Collection has placed fifth, breaking into the top five for the first time since its 2022 release.
Country music is dominating the charts this week as US singer-songwriter Ella Langley has landed her first UK number one single with Choosin’ Texas.
The viral track debuted at number 78 in January and has steadily worked its way to the top, with the Alabama-born star ending Sam Fender and Olivia Dean’s time at the summit with Rein Me In.
The song previously broke a record set in 1953 for the longest-running number one single and has earned 23 non-consecutive weeks at the peak, but has finally been knocked down, sitting at number seven.
The top five is completed by Sienna Spiro’s Great Expectation at two, Movin’ To The Sun by Hugel, Imael Angel, and Ultra Nate at three and Boston by Stella Lefty at four.
Over on the albums chart, US singer Alex Warren has achieved his second consecutive UK number one with Wildchild – which has also topped the UK vinyl albums chart for the most physical records sold.
“This is absolutely insane, and I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart,” he told the Official Charts Company.
“You guys were the first ones to ever believe in me, and I hope I can get over there (the UK) pretty soon and do some shows. I love you so, so much.”
Warren previously took the top spot with his debut studio album You’ll Be Alright, Kid in 2025 – which is known for hits such as Ordinary, Eternity and Bloodline.
He is joined in the top five by The Courteeners who have placed second with God Bless The Band, which is followed by Michael Jackson’s compilation album The Essential at number three.
Its chart success comes amid an ongoing resurgence for the late singer – nicknamed the King of Pop – sparked by the release of a biopic film depicting his life.
Following at number four is Olivia Rodrigo with her chart-topping album You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love, which landed her the biggest opening week of her career after its release in June.
