There were six fire engines at the scene at the height of the incident.

Firefighters are tackling a wildfire in the Pentland Hills near Edinburgh amid a “very high” risk of wildfire warning in eastern Scotland.

Emergency services were called to the blaze at Torduff Reservoir on Torduff Road at 5.49pm on Thursday.

At the height of the incident six fire engines were at the scene and three were still there at 6.30am on Friday.

There were no reports of any injuries.

Nearby residents were advised to keep windows and doors shut as a precaution while firefighters dealt with the incident due to smoke in the area.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) and Scottish Wildfire Forum have issued a “very high” risk of wildfire warning for eastern Scotland from Friday May 29 until Monday June 1.

They have urged people in the warning area to take care and avoid lighting fires in the open in the coming days.

SFRS head of prevention deputy assistant chief officer Kenny Barbour, who is also a Scottish Wildlife Forum chairman, said: “Those in affected areas should avoid lighting outdoor fires and remain aware that even a single spark can quickly escalate, causing widespread damage.

“Taking simple precautions can help prevent devastating damage.

“Remember, there’s no such thing as a harmless fire.

“Share wildfire warnings with your family, friends, and visitors.

“And if anyone spots an outdoor fire, please report it immediately by calling 999, providing your location, and any other relevant information so we can respond quickly.”
