Game Of Thrones: The Mad King has been transferred to London and will open in 2027.
The play, which premiered at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon, is an adapted prequel of George RR Martin’s A Song Of Ice And Fire series.
Written by Duncan Macmillan, it is set 10 years before the events of the first novel, A Game Of Thrones, amidst a tournament at Harrenhal, as members of the Mad King Aerys II’s inner circle plot against him.
Venue and dates will be announced in due course.
Creator and executive producer Martin said: “I had an absolutely splendid time in Stratford-upon-Avon for the premiere and am thrilled the production will be moving to London to share the experience with a wider audience.
“It promises to be an exhilarating journey.”
The play debuted in Stratford-upon-Avon on Saturday August 8. The final performance is Saturday September 5, following a completely sold-out season.
Game Of Thrones: The Mad King received rave reviews from critics upon its debut.
The franchise began with Martin’s A Song Of Ice And Fire fantasy novels, of which five have been released and another two are planned.
The books were adapted into the hugely successful Game Of Thrones TV series which ran for eight seasons on HBO.
